Being a pastoral leader is
challenging work! Often clergy lead lives of public
isolation. That is, they are known to many but may not
feel they are truly or deeply known by many or even any.
STREAM is a group for
pastoral leaders that is designed to create a community
of colleagues. The qualities that will characterize this
experience are suggested by the word, STREAM.

in orientation.
Common reading for this
STREAM experience will include two recent, excellent
books: "Becoming the Pastor You Hope to Be: Four
Practices for Improving Ministry" by Barbara Blodgett
(Alban) and "Nurturing Spiritual Depth in Christian
Worship: Ten Practices" by Janice Jean Springer
(Resource Publications).
Groups will be facilitated
by Tony Robinson, CLN President and Coordinator of the
Resource Center for Ministry of Samaritan Center. Tony
brings to this work three decades of experience as a
pastoral leader in a variety of church settings, his
work as writer and teacher on congregational life,
renewal and leadership, and his experience as a
consultant to religious congregations.
Lilly Endowment research
indicates that no single factor is more important to
sustaining excellence in pastoral ministry than
participation in a colleagues group that provides
support and accountability, consultation and friendship,
and in which members share a commitment to excellence in
the practice of ministry. "STREAM: A Group for Pastoral
Leaders" offers this opportunity to pastors in the Puget
Sound region in 2012.
STREAM will meet once a
month for two and half hours, from 2:30 to 5:00pm We will
meet on the second Thursday of January (1/12), February (2/9)
March (3/8), April (4/12), May (5/17), June (6/14),
September (9/13) and October (10/11).
Our meetings will include
opportunities for participants to share with others
about their current work and its joys and challenges, to
listen together to Scripture and pray together and to
explore topics and recent literature related to the
practice of ministry today.
Registration cost for
STREAM is $320 for the year. We are currently exploring
the possibility of denominations sharing that cost on a
50/50 basis with participating clergy.
