Workshop on Congregational Purpose and Vision with
Tony Robinson
This event is for
congregational leadership teams, including clergy and
lay leaders. It will be designed both for teams that are
in the process of leading work to discern purpose and
write the vision, and for teams that are preparing to do
such work in the future.
We will define Purpose and Vision and explore the
relationship between the two. We will look at several
different processes congregations may use for discerning
and discovering Purpose and Vision. We will invite
congregations that are doing this work to share their
experience and learning. We will provide coaching and
trouble-shooting for leadership teams wherever they are
on the journey of discovering purpose and writing the
vision.
Purpose and Vision are crucial to congregational renewal
and vitality. The Book of Proverbs said it well,
"Without a vision, the people perish." Without a sense
of purpose, congregations tend to drift like boats
without a rudder. No fun for anyone. Without a vision,
resources (human and financial) are squandered.
We will also pay attention in this seminar to the role
of the pastor in this work, the role and responsibility
of the congregation's governing body, and the role and
involvement of the congregation.
